NEA Baptist Clinic is bringing new and important clinical trial opportunities
to Northeast Arkansas. Study volunteers may receive free
tests
and study medicines, an opportunity to learn
more about various medical conditions, and possibly receive financial
compensation for time and travel.
A clinical trial is a study
conducted with patients, usually to evaluate a new treatment.
Each study is designed to answer scientific questions and to find
a
new and better way to help patients. Standard treatments, the
ones now being used, are the building blocks for new treatments.
New
treatments are often based on what has worked in the past. During
a trial, more information is gathered about a new treatment,
the side effects, and how well it may or may not work. The treatments
that are now considered standard for patient care, were at one
time clinical trials. Only patients that want to, take part
in
clinical trials.
Patients take part in clinical trials for a number of different
reasons. Some of the reasons include hope for themselves, a way
to feel better, a longer time to live, or the knowledge that they
are making a contribution that could help another person. Patients
that participate in clinical trials are sometimes the first to
receive
and benefit from a new medication that is not yet available to
the general population. Patients that participate in clinical trials
are also monitored carefully during the trial and in the follow
up
period.
